Bio

Andrea James started working in the Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics in August of 2005 as a full-time assistant sports information director. James was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics Communications in 2008.

James was the primary contact for football during the NCAA playoff run in 2006 and currently serves as the main contact for men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and softball. James splits coverage for volleyball, cross country, track and field, and tennis.

While entering her 19th year on staff, James has helped redesign the athletics website three times and is the liaison for web development and technology.

Prior to Carnegie Mellon, James worked at Allegheny College for the 2004-2005 school year in which she covered the men's soccer and softball NCAA playoff teams.

James is a 2002 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and played shortstop and second base for the softball team. She was all-conference her junior season and won two conference championships while advancing to the NCAA Regionals twice. James also earned her MBA at West Virginia Wesleyan while working as a graduate assistant in the sports information office. One of her first media relations opportunities came in August of 2002 when she traveled to Williamsport, Pa., to cover a California baseball team playing in the Little League World Series.

Outside of Carnegie Mellon, James was fortunate to work at the 2006 NCAA Division II Softball Championship in which she submitted press releases to ncaasports.com following each game. She also volunteered at the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball First and Second Rounds site at the University of Pittsburgh and the 2015 and 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Second and Third Rounds site in Pittsburgh hosted by Duquesne Univesity. James also served as a statistician for the sports production team for Comcast Cable during football and basketball seasons.

James is a member of College Sports Communicators (CSC) as well as a member of the Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM).

Andrea and her husband, Anthony, live in Austintown, Ohio, with their two sons, Antoni and Arion.
