Bio

The 2023-24 athletic year marks Sal Vallejo’s seventh on the Carnegie Mellon athletic training staff.

Prior to joining the Tartans, Sal worked as an assistant athletic trainer at Purdue University for 10 years where his primary sport responsibility was football. He also covered men’s and women’s swimming and driving from 2007-10 followed by wrestling from 2010-12. Along with his assigned sports coverage, he was a clinical preceptor in the Purdue University Athletic Training Curriculum Program.

Prior to working at Purdue, Sal was an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Notre Dame from 2002 to 2007. During his time at Notre Dame, he spent multiple seasons with men's lacrosse, men's and women's swimming and diving and track and field. His responsibilities also included coordinating the daily physician’s clinic, as well as teaching basic athletic training skills to work study students.

A native of Hollister, California, Sal earned a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training from San Diego State University in 1999. He received his master’s degree in Health and Kinesiology from Purdue University in 2002 and was also a graduate assistant in the Recreational Sports Center.
