Tartan Football Players Lend Hand in Community
Members of the Carnegie Mellon University football program spent
time at the Hosanna House on Saturday, March 29, as part of the
campus-wide community service day 1000Plus. The Hosanna House
is a multi-purpose community center serving over 35,000 people a
year and is located in Wilkinsburg, Pa.
Throughout the day, the 35 members of the team spent their time
preparing for the spring opening. Most of their time was spent
landscaping by cutting down brush and clearing the facility.
Besides the football team, there were roughly a total of 150
Carnegie Mellon volunteers on Saturday.
“It was extremely gratifying to see the level of commitment
that our players made to the 1000Plus Community Service Day this
past weekend,” said head coach Rich Lackner. “The
folks at the Hosanna House were so appreciative of our efforts
– It was a GREAT day for all!”
The student-athletes’ service was part of a larger Carnegie
Mellon initiative called 1000plus, which brings together students,
faculty, staff and alumni to volunteer at multiple sites throughout
the greater Pittsburgh area.
