Major: Business Administration

Internship Year, Title, and Company
Summer 2020, Data Intern, Universal Tennis

Application process: I had worked at Universal Tennis two years prior to this summer so I knew the employees there already. There was no applying/accepting timeline.

Why did this internship interest you: I wanted to learn more about how data and numbers drive a company forward. I also wanted to continue learning about how companies as a whole operate (how management works, how projects are divided, how meetings are conducted, etc).

How did you complete the internship - remotely or on-site: I completed this internship remotely.

Description of internship: I helped with projects that analyzed long term company growth through key market areas and created partnerships with community partners (using Salesforce, Sisense for Cloud Data Teams, & Microsoft Excel). I created national surveys and conducted phone calls to better understand users, sell/market products, and help run tournaments/events across the country. I worked approximately 15-20 hours a week and was not in a team.

How it could have been different if not remote: Being remote the whole internship differed from years past. I think what was lacking the most was the social and collaboration aspect. In years prior, I was able to work more hands on with fellow interns and full time employees. However, with the internship being online, I found I had to be more independent.

How did this internship shape your next move: After working at Universal Tennis for three years, I realized I have found a passion in business. I would like to continue learning about how businesses operate, specifically from a financial point of view. In the future, I hope to pursue an internship that is more financially driven, and one day pursue a career in the financial industry.
