Mentoring Match Comes at Perfect Time

Like many students, junior men’s tennis player Kiril Kirkov found searching for the right internship to be difficult and taxing. Even with a campus career and professional development center that has expertise in resume crafting and job placement at his disposal, Kirkov needed a little something extra. What he found was a voice who had experienced much of the same things, and he found it through the Student-Athlete Alumni Mentoring Program.

Jonathan ‘JD’ Dyer, a mechanical engineering major and cornerback on the Tartans football team, is an entrepreneur through and through. He says, “In my study of entrepreneurship, I’ve learned that it’s the people that hustle that win.” It’s that lesson that has served him well both in the business world and on the football field.

Abhishek Alla made a splash in 2012 during his freshman year at Carnegie Mellon when he began studying civil and environmental engineering and was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South Rookie of the Year. Since then, Abhishek has lived up to all of the hype and he's had fun doing it. Always on the move from Civ-E projects to tennis practices, Abhishek can usually be spotted running across campus wearing his favorite shirts from "Serengetee" with a smile on his face.

When Jackie Hudepohl, a women’s basketball transfer student-athlete from Division I Colgate University, arrived on campus in 2014, Carnegie Mellon University knew it was getting a great basketball player. What the university quickly found out was that it got a model student too. As Jackie impressed coaches and teammates in preseason workouts, she also made a name for herself in her classes.
