Athletics Department Launches First-Ever Tartan Challenge

Carnegie Mellon athletes want to challenge you to support the Tartans! With our students’ commitment in mind, as well as the knowledge that donor support helps to drive our overall success, we have received lead donor support to initiate our first-ever Tartan Challenge this month. Our lead donors have pledged $20,000 in matching funds to the athletics program to encourage gifts from other athletics alumni and parents up to that amount that are received from January 15-February 15.

“I am grateful to our generous donors for the contributions they made to help the Tartan Challenge become a reality,” said Director of Athletics Josh Centor. “This is an exciting initiative that we hope will engage and inspire our community to support our student-athletes in their educational experience at Carnegie Mellon.”

The athletics department has experienced significant donor growth this year, largely as a result of student-athlete investment in their own experience. In the fall, the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (44 students) achieved 100 percent giving to the university. The SAAC went on to challenge the entire intercollegiate athletics community to participate in the initiative, and 161 student gifts have been made to date.

“We are thrilled at the statement our student-athletes continue to make,” Centor said. “All gifts to the Tartan Fund directly impact student experience and support our young men and women as they represent the university across the country.”
