State-of-the-Art Surface and Logos Highlight New Football Field

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The playing surface of Gesling Stadium got a facelift this summer and is now complete with an upgraded version of FieldTurf. The project took nearly four weeks to complete and now dons the official logo of Carnegie Mellon along with vibrant color in the end zones.

“We are excited to bring a new playing surface to Gesling Stadium and can’t wait to see our players out there during preseason,” said Director of Athletics Josh Centor. “We are proud to have the name of our world-renowned university in each of the end zones and an image of our Scottie Dog in the center of the field. With the new field, renovations to our locker room and our rejoining of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference as an affiliate member this fall, there is a lot for our players, alums and future Tartans to be fired up about.”

The playing surface was last renovated with FieldTurf in the summer of 2006 with lines for both football and soccer. The new surface continues to have an infill mix of silica sand and cryogenic rubber and a patented layering process that delivers a system that emulates natural grass but now has markings just for football, as the soccer teams play adjacent to Gesling on a field marked for soccer.
