Two Named Athlete of the Week by ECAC

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University athletes were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) when the organization announced its weekly award winners this week. From women's swimming and diving senior Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) and from women's track and field junior Debarati Bhanja (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany).

Kim Hochstedler - South Women's Swimmer of the Week

Senior Kim Hochstedler of the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team competed at the Western Pennsylvania Invite on Saturday afternoon hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. Hochstedler touched the wall in 1:05.42 in the 100-yard breaststroke to place third and then turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.11. Her time in the 100-yard breaststroke was her second best time of the season in the event.

 

Debarati Bhanja - South Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week (Track Events)

Junior Debarati Bhanja of the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team won four events at the 10th annual Battle of the Obelisk on Saturday against UAA foe Case Western Reserve University. The junior crossed first in the 60-meter dash with a career-best time of 8.17 before winning the 200-meter dash in 26.72. She was also part of the 4x400-meter relay that closed the meet with a top finish in 4:06.81. Bhanja started the day winning the long jump with a distance of 4.98 meters.
