Two Named Athlete of the Week by ECAC

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University athletes were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) when the organization announced its weekly award winners this week. From women's swimming and diving senior Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) and from women's track and from men's swimming and diving junior diver Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass./CRLS).

Kim Hochstedler - South Women's Swimmer of the Week

Senior Kim Hochstedler became the first Carnegie Mellon UAA women’s swimming individual champion since 2012 when she touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.58) on the final day of the UAA Championships. For the meet, Hochstedler also set a new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.51) while finishing second and was part of both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard medley relays that set new school records. She also placed 15th in the 200-yard IM. Hochstedler is currently eighth in the nation in the 200-yard breaststroke and 10th in the nation in the 100-yard breaststroke.

 

Gabe Bamforth - South Men's Diver of the Week

Junior Gabe Bamforth set a new school record and placed second on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards at the UAA Championships. He topped his own school record on the 1-meter board with a new high score of 565.85 which currently ranks fourth in the nation while his score of 544.30 on the 3-meter board is currently seventh in the nation.
