Four Named Athlete of the Week by ECAC

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University athletes were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) when the organization announced its weekly award winners this week. Volleyball sophomore Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral), men's soccer junior Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), women's soccer freshman Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo./Micds) and men's cross country junior Aadi Mhatre (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) were all honored.

Kayla Yew - South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore libero Kayla Yew of the 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team guided the Tartans to a 2-1 mark at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1. Yew totaled 86 digs for the week and extended her double-digit dig streak to 19 games for the season. She recorded a week-high of 35 in the Tartans win over NYU. Additionally, Yew had seven service aces for the round robin.

Zack Masciopinto - South Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Junior forward Zack Masciopinto started UAA play scoring two goals as the 11th-ranked Tartans topped NYU, 3-1, at home on Saturday, September 30. Masciopinto scored the game's first goal in the third minute and the game's last goal in the 66th minute. His second goal came 10 minutes after NYU cut the deficit in half. The junior now leads the team with six goals for the year.

Carolyn Botz - South Women's Soccer Rookie Player of the Week

Freshman Carolyn Botz earned her fifth shutout of the season in her first career UAA game when the 10th-ranked Tartans defeated NYU, 1-0, at home on Saturday, September 30. The first-year athlete made two saves early in the second half with the Tartans already in the lead. Her goals against average for the season dropped to .36.

Aadi Mhatre - South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Junior Aadi Mhatre of the 16th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team led the Tartans to a third-place team showing at the non-Division I race at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Friday. Mhatre paced the Tartans by finishing the 8K race in 24 minutes and 59 seconds. His time put him 17th overall.
