Carnegie Mellon Ranks 16th in Final Learfield Directors’ Cup Fall Standings

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – Carnegie Mellon University is 16th in the final fall Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Thursday.

The Tartans have totaled 213 points in the fall after four teams competed in their respective post-season championships: men’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, and volleyball.

The men’s soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and collected 50 points. The men’s cross country program turned in an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Champi-onship with the women’s team placing 31st to receive 56 and 43 points, respectively. The volley-ball team advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and received 64 points.

Carnegie Mellon joins the other seven University Athletic Association (UAA) institutions in the standings – WashU (fourth), Chicago (fifth), Emory (eighth), Rochester (10th), Carnegie Mellon (16th), Case Western Reserve (38th), Brandeis (49th) and NYU (63rd). The UAA leads all Divi-sion III conferences in the top 20 with five institutions.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

The first set of winter standings will be released March 7, 2019.
