Athletics Facilities/Recreation 2021 Spring Semester Plans and Procedures

Recreation is an essential component of campus life. It contributes to the student experience and to the health and well-being of our students – physically, mentally and emotionally.

This document contains the procedures that the Carnegie Mellon community will follow in our athletics facilities this spring. These guidelines do not supersede any university, local, state or federal guidelines in place for the COVID-19 pandemic, and are subject to change.

We will use a staggered and phased approach as we prepare for the spring. All patrons will need to understand the protocols and must adhere to these policies and procedures. In addition, the Athletics Department has assigned two staff team members to the role of Pandemic Safety Officer (PSO), Sara Gauntner and Jason Mlodzianowski. Director of the Cohon Center Marcia Gerwig will also serve as a PSO.

All athletics facilities will be monitored during open hours by Athletics Department staff. Patrons must check-in to each facility upon arrival and staff members may be asked to log their contact information for contact tracing purposes. Carnegie Mellon IDs will be required for individuals to gain entry into an athletics facility. Facilities will not be accessible outside of the supervised open times.

If a facility is unable to be monitored by an athletics department staff, it will be closed.

Carnegie Mellon will enforce a two-week modified quarantine for students once they arrive on campus. Walking or exercise outdoors is permitted during the modified quarantine, as long as all facility and university protocols are met. Residential students are permitted to access outdoor facilities during their modified quarantine, as long as facial coverings are worn at all times and physical distancing is followed. Indoor athletics facilities may not be accessed. Off-campus residents are not permitted to use campus facilities until they have completed the two-week quarantine.

Traditional services will be suspended until further notice, including towel, locker, laundry, and equipment check-out. Daily use lockers will be available.
