Carnegie Mellon Changes Visitor Guidance for Outdoor Events

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University has updated its guidance to allow limited visitors for outdoor athletic events. The change in posture will go into effect the morning of Saturday, March 20.

As a result of the change, two family members of each student-athlete competing outdoors will be permitted to attend home events.

Due to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 landscape, prospective visitors should note that schedule changes may occur at any time as Carnegie Mellon and opposing institutions respond to COVID impacts. The university and Department of Athletics cannot guarantee that scheduled games will always happen or won’t shift to another date or time.

Please note the following guidelines and protocols:

  • Each outdoor student-athlete (football, soccer, softball, tennis, golf, track and field) will be allowed two guests from off-campus.
  • Maximum attendance at Gesling Stadium will be set at 350, or approximately 10 percent of the facility capacity (3,500).
  • All other outdoor venues will have a maximum of 100 spectators for our events.
  • Visitors will not be permitted at indoor venues.
  • The guests must follow all university mitigation protocols throughout their stay.
  • Student-athletes will submit the names of their guests to the head coach, two days before each event. The names will be on a list and guests will check-in with an athletics department staff member prior to admission.
  • Guests are only permitted to be present at the athletic venue.
  • No tailgating or congregating in groups in the parking lots or at game venues is permitted. The roof of the garage will not be available as we are not able to monitor that space.
  • Guests can arrive at the venue one hour before a game.
  • Guests will sit in specified seating areas. (Will be clearly marked upon arrival to venue)
  • Facial coverings are required at all times.
  • Physical distancing from those from a different household is required.
  • Visiting teams are not permitted to bring any spectators. This exception is limited to guests of Carnegie Mellon student-athletes.
