UAA Announces Intent to Return to Competition in Fall 2021

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – It is with great pleasure that the members of the University Athletic Association announce their intent to return to pre-COVID-19 levels of competition across all sports within the UAA beginning with the start of the 2021 fall season.

The intention to return to a full schedule of UAA competition was recommended by the UAA Athletic Administrators Committee and unanimously affirmed by the members of the UAA Presidents Council.

The members of the UAA are prepared to work collaboratively to ensure appropriate protocols are in place as UAA competition resumes based on guidance from campus health and safety officials and recommendations from the NCAA Sports Science Institute and the National Centers for Disease Control. In doing so, the UAA will continue to rely on a long-standing spirit of collegiality and a high level of confidence in the ability of all its members to make decisions around athletic competition that are in the best interests of their respective student-athletes and the UAA.

“Resuming intercollegiate competition among our UAA peers has been long-awaited by our exceptional student-athletes, their coaches and families and our university communities. The UAA student-athletes have shown exceptional resilience throughout the pandemic and we look forward to cheering them on the sidelines this fall.” said Carnegie Mellon University President and Chair of the UAA Presidents Council Farnam Jahanian.

The UAA conducts championship competition in Volleyball, Women’s and Men’s Soccer, and Women’s and Men’s Cross Country during the fall season.
