Carnegie Mellon University Athletics Announces Departmental Promotions

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Andy Girard, Monica Harrison and Stefanie Santo, three members of the Carnegie Mellon University athletics department, have received promotions to assistant director roles as announced by Director of Athletics Josh Centor. Girard will take on the title of Assistant Director of Athletics for Leadership and Development Programs; Harrison, Assistant Director of Athletics for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI); and Santo, Assistant Director of Athletics for Business Operations.

“Andy, Monica and Stefanie have all made significant impacts in administrative areas, and I am grateful for the opportunity to recognize their outstanding work,” said Centor. “Each of these areas of focus aligns with department strategic priorities, and I am excited to recognize the work they have done, and will continue to do, to provide opportunities for our current and future students at Carnegie Mellon.”

Girard, head women’s tennis coach and operations manager for intercollegiate tennis, will remain in those roles. He will continue to provide oversight for the student-athlete mentoring program, and work with Associate Director of Athletics Kim Kelly on administration of the Tartan Leaders of Tomorrow program. Girard has spent the past year providing support for the Athletics/Advancement planning and leadership team, which develops the department’s alumni relations and fundraising plan. He will continue to formally serve the department and all programs in that capacity.

Harrison, head softball coach and current NCAA athletics diversity and inclusion designee, has spearheaded the department’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts over the last two years. In that time, she has developed a DEI strategic plan, helped fundraise a major commitment for an endowed fund to support DEI initiatives and led the Tartan Athletics Club Board of Directors DEI subcommittee. Harrison works directly with the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion and serves on a task force with the Office of Admission.

Santo, the department’s senior financial administrator, oversees a budget in excess of $5 million. Last year, she led the effort to reduce the budget to help support the university’s necessary response to COVID-19’s financial impact. Santo works directly with coaches and program directors and makes autonomous decisions related to every aspect of our financial operation. She oversees all department agreements and contracts, including major partnerships related to travel and equipment procurement. Santo has partnered with Associate Director of Athletics Jason Mlodzianowski to improve inventory management and supports hiring across the department.
