Carnegie Mellon football standout Sam Thompson (Alcoa, Tenn.) earned All-America honors from Beyond Sports College Network and for the second straight season, the senior cornerback and junior offensive guard Nathan Cheek (Lancaster, Ohio) were named to the D3football.com All-South Region team. Thompson repeats as a second-team member while Cheek was also named to the second team after earning third-team honors last fall. Thompson was selected as a third-team All-American by Beyond Sports College Network.

Senior cornerback and punt returner Sam Thompson (Alcoa, Tenn.) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was named a Capital One Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday, December 4. Thompson was selected to the first-team, marking the second straight season he was named an Academic All-American as he was recognized on the second-team a year ago.

Carnegie Mellon University junior quarterback Rob Kalkstein (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Offensive Player of the Year for his play on the gridiron this fall. Kalkstein, who set three single-season records this season, was joined by five other Tartans as first-team selections, including one player who received first-team accolades at two positions. Kalkstein becomes the first Tartan to garner the Offensive Player of the Year honor since 2007, when Travis Sivek was named.

Junior quarterback Rob Kalkstein (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team set three single-season school records, as the Tartans dropped a heartbreaker at Waynesburg University. The Tartans fell 28-24 in the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Bowl Saturday, November 17.

Senior Sam Thompson (Alcoa, Tenn.) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Special Teams Athlete of the Week following his performance at Case Western Reserve University this past Saturday. Thompson recorded his second return punt for a touchdown this season in the 27th Annual Academic Bowl.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team concluded its regular season with a 36-24 setback at Case Western Reserve University in the 27th Annual Academic Bowl on Saturday, November 10. In the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest, junior wide receiver Tim Kikta (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) set the Tartans single-season record for receiving yards as the Tartans are now 6-4, 1-2 UAA while the Spartans end the season at 6-4, 2-1.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team had six members named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District Team Thursday, November 8. This marked the second straight season the Tartans have had six named to the All-District team and seventh straight year they have had at least five or more named. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team will conclude its 2012 regular season schedule Saturday, November 10, as they travel to Cleveland, Ohio, to play the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University in the 27th Academic Bowl. The Tartans enter Saturday's contest with a 6-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA) play while Case is 5-4, 1-1. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. on the turf of Case Field.

Senior running back Patrick Blanks (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) was recognized by the UAA as Offensive Athlete of the Week while freshman place kicker Connor Young (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) earned Special Teams Athlete of the Week. The honors come following their performances in the Tartans 31-14 victory over UAA foe University of Chicago.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team used a complete team effort to beat the University of Chicago on Saturday, November 3, as the Tartans picked up a 31-14 victory over their University Athletic Association (UAA) foe. Senior running back Patrick Blanks (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) had three touchdowns to propel the Tartans, who moved to 6-3, 1-1 while the Maroons fell to 4-5, 0-2.
