Benger Named UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week and Corvias ECAC Southwest Rookie of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass.) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Offensive Athlete of the Week and Corvias Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Rookie of the Week for his play in the Tartans' 21-10 win over Grove City College Saturday, October 18, as he accounted for 201 total yards of offense.

The freshman turned in a career performance rushing 19 times for 139 yards to average 7.3 yards per carry. Benger also had career-best receiving numbers, leading the Tartans with four receptions for 62 yards. Benger's 139 yards on the ground, marked the first 100-yard rusher for the Tartans since October 5, 2013 at Saint Vincent College.

Carnegie Mellon will be back in action on Saturday, October 25 when they travel to Latrobe, Pa. for a 1:00 p.m. kick against Saint Vincent.
