Simmons Promoted to Offensive Special Teams Coordinator

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University Assistant Football Coach Jeff Simmons has been named Offensive Special Teams Coordinator. Simmons, who will begin his 10th year with the program this fall, will retain his responsibilities coaching tight ends and h-backs.

"Jeff has done a great job working with our offensive special teams over the past several years," said head coach Rich Lackner. "His work with the specialists and attention to detail is outstanding. The improvement in our special teams play last season was exceptional."

During the 2014 season, Simmons took on an extended role with the offensive special teams unit, resulting in a few end-of-game plays that propelled the team to victory. Simmons has been a fixture on the CMU sidelines for nearly a decade, and previously mentored the running backs and wide receivers. He had a hand in developing the single-season leader in receptions, rushing yards and yards per rushing attempt, and career leaders in rushing yards and points scored. The offense also set school season records for yards rushing, yards passing and total yards, while setting the single-game record for rushing yards during the 2010 season. Simmons' first season with the team produced two 1,000-yard rushers as the 2006 team won the University Athletic Association Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship tournament.
