Tartans to Play Bridgewater State in ECAC Legacy Bowl

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University football team will play Bridgewater State University (Mass.) in the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Legacy Bowl Championship Sunday, November 22.  Kick is set for 12:00 p.m. on the turf at Arute Field on the campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut. Carnegie Mellon enters the contest with a record of 7-3 after finishing the regular season with six straight wins.  In Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, the Tartans finished tied for third with a mark of 6-2 while the Cardinal and Gray won their ninth University Athletic Association (UAA) championship after defeating Case Western Reserve University, 52-42, in the 30th Academic Bowl on Saturday, November 14.

The Tartans are led on the ground by the nation's leading rusher and PAC Offensive Player of the Year, sophomore Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass.).  Benger has rushed for 1,897 yards this season and 18 touchdowns.  He needs 103 yards in Sunday's game to become the 21st player in Division III to reach the 2,000-yard club.

Bridgewater ended its regular season with the identical mark of the Tartans at 7-3 and finished tied for second place in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with a record of 6-2.  The Bears also finished the season strong, winning five of their last six contests.

Offensively, the Bears are led on the ground by sophomore Alex McLaughlin who has rushed for 879 yards and 16 touchdowns.  McLaughlin also adds a threat to the offense by way of the passing game.  The Bears second string quarterback has passed for 452 yards and three touchdowns on 33-of-71 passes.

When the teams collide on the gridiron Sunday it will mark the first ever meeting.
