(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University football team will entertain the Bears of Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday, September 3 in the Tartans first contest of 2016. Kick is slated for 12:00 p.m. on the turf at Gesling Stadium. The Cardinal and Gray have a 64-40-3 mark in season openers, but have dropped the last three after winning 14 straight from 1999-2012. Saturday will mark the first time since 2012 that the Tartans open the season at home.

When the teams collide Saturday, Carnegie Mellon will be riding a seven-game winning streak, third longest in Division III. It will mark the 34th meeting, as Washington leads the series 17-16 following a 45-24 win a year ago to open the season in St. Louis.

The Tartans will once again be led by head coach Rich Lackner, who is entering his 31st season at the helm and currently ranks fourth among Division III active coaches with 196 victories. The game also features another coach ranking in the top five of active winningest coaches in Division III. Bears leader Larry Kindbom ranks fifth with 194 wins, with 166 of them coming at Washington, at the start of his 28th season.

Both leaders are chasing 200 wins with only nine active coaches holding the mark among all divisions. There have been 74 collegiate football coaches all time to reach the 200 win plateau.
