Renna and Brittain Named UAA Athletes of the Week
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior placekicker Gabe Renna (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) and junior outside linebacker Kyle Brittain (Largo, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic) were recognized by the University Athletic Association (UAA) for their play in the Tartans' 29-10 win at Geneva College Saturday, October 15. Renna picked up his third honor as Special Teams Athlete of the Week and second straight while Brittain is honored as Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season.
Brittain helped the defense hold Geneva to 102 yards of total offense which is the lowest total output by a Tartan opponent since holding Thiel to 140 yards in 2006. The junior finished with eight tackles, six solo, 1.5 tackles for loss of 13 yards, a sack and a fumble recovery. The Tartans' defense also held Geneva to zero yards passing.
Renna converted all three of his extra points attempted as well as going 2-of-2 on field goals (35 and 30 yards). He now has converted all 25 extra points attempted this season and has made eight straight field goals.
Carnegie Mellon returns home on Saturday, October 22 for a 1:00 p.m. contest against Thiel College.
