Head Coach Rich Lackner of the Carnegie Mellon University football team has announced the captains for the 2019 season. The four rising seniors, Chris Haas (Coronado, Calif./Coronado), Michael Lohmeier (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central), Parker Mellott (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) and Willie Richter (Leander, Texas/Cedar Park) were voted captains by the Tartan football program.

Carnegie Mellon University football senior Rory Hubbard (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and 2018 women’s soccer graduates Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash.) and Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill.) have been selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for excelling academically and athletically while showing leadership and commitment to the community. Twenty-one males and 21 females across all three NCAA divisions were chosen as recipients for fall sports.

After three years of competing on the field of Gesling Stadium and excelling as a mechanical engineering student, junior Willie Richter has learned how to thrive as a student-athlete. Initially apprehensive of the competitive and rigorous environment at Carnegie Mellon University, Richter's ability to adapt to challenges is what has made him successful. In defeating nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University in the Academic Bowl in November, Richter and the rest of the Tartans had a chance to exhibit this attribute.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team landed 33 members on the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Academic Honor Roll for the Fall 2018 semester. For the fifth consecutive fall, the Tartans had the most football players honored amongst the 11 schools that sponsor football in the PAC. Of the 33, 10 maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the first semester.

Senior H-back Karl Kumm (Brick, N.J./Brick Township), of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was named to the D3football.com 2018 All-South Region team. Kumm earned second-team honors, as the senior was selected in balloting by South Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff. This marks the fifth straight season the Tartans have had at least one player receive the accolade.

For the 11th time in program history, the Carnegie Mellon University football team claimed the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with wins at University of Rochester and Case Western Reserve University. The league announced its postseason awards on Tuesday, as Head Coach Rich Lackner and his staff; Terry Bodnar, Andy Helms, Jeff Simmons, Bernie Colbert, Ben Gibboney, Zach Harvey, Carmelo R. Montalvo, Zach Richert and Kevin Sheridan were named Coaching Staff of the Year. It marked the seventh time that Lackner and his staff received the accolade.

The Tartans place two on the first team and three on the second team while 12 were tabbed honorable mention with one named to the sportsmanship team.

Senior quarterback Alex Cline (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team became the school’s all-time leader in touchdown passes after throwing four in the Tartans’ 35-14 win over the visiting Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College Saturday afternoon. The Tartans, who trailed 14-7, scored 28 unanswered points to end the season with a 6-4 overall record and 5-4 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Geneva concludes its season at 2-8 and 2-7.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team had eight members named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District football team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Junior running back Chris Haas (Coronado, Calif./Coronado), junior corner back Anthony Kennon (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) and freshman placekicker Brandon Nguyen (Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team were recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for their play in the Tartans’ 29-23 overtime win at 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University this past Saturday. Haas and Kennon also garnered weekly recognition from the University Ath-letic Association (UAA), as the Tartans claimed their 11th Association title with the win over the Spartans.
