Nguyen Named Special Teams PAC Player of the Week; Tartans Sweep UAA Weekly Awards

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Freshman placekicker Brandon Nguyen (Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) as Special Teams Player of the Week following his play in the Tartans' 31-7 win over the University of Rochester this past Saturday. The Tartans also swept the University Athletic Association (UAA) weekly awards, as Nguyen was named Special Teams Athlete of the Week, senior cornerback Ethan Anderson (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) received the defensive award and senior running back Rory Hubbard (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) the offensive accolade.

Nguyen was perfect in Saturday's 31-7 season-opening win at Rochester. In his first collegiate game, he converted all four of his extra point attempts and added a 38-yard fourth quarter field goal.

Anderson recorded four solo tackles, two pass breakups and his first career interception. The senior also played a huge factor in holding the Yellowjackets to 95 passing yards.

Hubbard ran for 190 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries for an average of 9.5 yards per carry. His 40-yard touchdown run started the scoring for the Tartans who finished with 324 team rushing yards. The senior also had a kickoff return for 28 yards and added five yards receiving to end the day with 223 all-purpose yards.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to Washington, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 15 to play the 13th-ranked Presidents of Washington & Jefferson College. Kick is set for 7:00 p.m. on the turf at Cameron Stadium.
