Hubbard Named Special Teams PAC and UAA Player of the Week; Tran Honored by UAA

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Senior running back and returner Rory Hubbard (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was rec-ognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) as Special Teams Player of the Week fol-lowing his play in the Tartans' 42-27 win over Saint Vincent College this past Saturday. Hubbard was also honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) as Special Teams Athlete of the Week and while senior Long Tran (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) was named Defen-sive Athlete of the Week for the UAA.

Hubbard registered his second career kickoff return for a score in Saturday's win, opening up the second half with a 95-yard return for a touchdown. It was the longest kickoff return for a score in the PAC since October 14, 2017. Hubbard led the Tartans with 228 all-purpose yards (81 rush-ing, 25 receiving, 122 kick return) and also scored on a six-yard run in the third quarter to push Carnegie Mellon's lead to 14, 35-21.

Tran turned in a career day, as he recorded 3.0 sacks for a loss of 23 yards and was in on four of the Tartans six sacks with two solo and two assisted. Tran made a career-best eight stops, including three solo, and added a quarterback hurry.

The Tartans will be back on the turf at Gesling Stadium on Saturday, September 29 when the Wolverines of Grove City College travel to Pittsburgh. Kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
