Knight and Nguyen Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – A pair of sophomores, cornerback Sean Knight (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and placekicker Brandon Nguyen (Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory), of the Carnegie Mellon University football team were recognized nationally on the D3football.com Team of the Week. The honor comes following the Tartans' 20-13 upset win over No. 12 Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday.

Knight registered his first interception of the year with 1:40 left in the game to seal the win for the Tartans. The cornerback finished the game with two tackles and three pass breakups.

Nguyen scored eight points in the win for the Cardinal and Gray. He started the scoring for the Tartans with a 41-yard field goal early in the first quarter. The sophomore then lined up for a career-long 46-yard field goal with one second remaining in the half and split the uprights to give the Tartans a 6-0 lead at the break. Nguyen then converted both of his extra-point attempts in the second half. He is 4-for-4 in field goal attempts and 9-for-9 in extra-point tries this season.

The Tartans will head to Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 28 for a 1:00 p.m. kick against the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College.
