Football Earns ECAC Bowl Bid - Tartans to Play Brevard

(DANBURY, Conn.) – After finishing the regular season with an 8-2 overall record, the Carnegie Mellon University football team was selected to play in the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Scotty Whitelaw Bowl Championship on Saturday, November 23 against Brevard College.

The Tartans and Tornados will kick off Saturday at a time to be determined on the turf of Gesling Stadium in the first ever meeting between the two institutions.

This will mark the Tartans seventh trip to an ECAC Bowl and fourth in the last five seasons. The Cardinal and Gray hold a 3-3 mark in bowl games. The Tartans three wins in ECAC Bowl play came in 1999, 2007 and 2015. The Cardinal and Gray traveled to Frostburg State University and came away with a 28-10 victory in 1999, then hosted Gettysburg College and put together a come-from-behind 21-20 victory in 2007. The third win for the Tartans came in 2015 when they defeated Bridgewater Sate, 48-13, in the Legacy Bowl, which was held at Central Connecticut State. The Tartans last appearance was in 2017 in the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl against Muhlenberg where they lost 32-6.

Brevard is a member of the USA South Athletic Conference (USAC) and is in its third year as a Division III playing institution. The Tornados will enter the game with a 7-2 overall mark and finished tied for second in the USAC with a 5-2 conference record.
