Lohmeier and Mellott Repeat on CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Team
(AUSTIN, Texas) – Senior defensive end Michael Lohmeier (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and senior safety Parker Mellott (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team were honored with first-team selections to the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division III Football Team.
This marks Lohmeier's third straight season receiving the honor. He repeats as a first-team honoree after being named to the second team following his sophomore season. It also marks a repeat appearance for Mellott, as he was named to the second team a year ago.
Lohmeier, a 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy Finalist and D3football.com All-Region selection, has a 4.00 GPA as a business administration major. He led the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) with a school record 22.5 tackles for a loss and tied for the team lead and ranked fifth in the PAC with 9.0 sacks. Lohmeier ranked second nationally in total tackles for a loss, eighth with 2.2 tackles for a loss per game, and was 46th in sacks. He was fourth on the team with 60 total tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble for a touchdown this season. He ends his career ranked fourth all-time in program history with 20.0 sacks.
This past summer, Lohmeier was an investment banking analyst at Lazard in New York City. He has been a market research analyst for Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Chicago and an equity research analyst for Robotti Securities & Company in New York. Lohmeier has volunteered at the Western Spring Sectional competition of the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania and is currently the liaison for the Tartans football team calendar fundraiser for the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The senior recently was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and also is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Lohmeier, who is the president of Carnegie Mellon's Investment Banking Academy, is a two-time University Athletic Association (UAA) Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team honoree and also a PAC honor roll and UAA All-Academic honoree.
Mellott carries a 4.00 GPA as a business administration major. He ranked seventh on the Tartans with 37 tackles including 20 solo. He recorded his first career interception to help secure the Tartans win over MIT to open the season. Mellott also finished the year with two fumble recoveries, including one against Brevard College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Scotty Whitelaw Bowl to end his career.
Mellott recently was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and also is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He also volunteers for the 1,000+ Service Day initiative and at the Carnegie Mellon Athletic Field Day. Mellott is the vice president of Communications of Alpha Sigma Phi and is the former president of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, while also a member of the Tepper Finance Group and a member of the Carnegie Mellon Wall Street Club. This past summer he was an Investment Banking Analyst for Guggenheim Securities in New York City. He has been a Wealth Management intern at Merrill Lynch and worked as an Equity Research Analyst for Robotti Securities & Company in New York.
The Tartans 58 all-time honorees ranks first in Division III and fifth among all of college football, Division I, II, III and NAIA.
