Three Tartans Earn Weekly Football Honors

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Three Carnegie Mellon University football team players have been recognized for their play in the Tartans'27-11 win over 22nd-ranked Washington & Jefferson College Saturday, November 6. Sophomore Thomas Coury (Phillipsburg N.J./Phillipsburg) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Defensive Player of the Week, junior punter Casey Jaeb (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) was named PAC Special Teams Player of the Week and sophomore Robert Coury (Phillipsburg N.J./Phillipsburg) landed a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Thomas and Robert Coury were a huge defensive presence in the win. The tandem helped the Tartans record a school record nine sacks as well as holding their sixth consecutive opponent to under 50 yards rushing, as W&J ran for 25 yards.

Thomas Coury recorded a career-high 16 tackles (9 solo), a half-sack, a pass breakup and blocked a punt that he collected in the end zone for a touchdown. His blocked punt and score came with 3:57 remaining in the second quarter and extended Carnegie Mellon's lead to 20-3. Robert Coury Coury recorded a career-high 2.5 sacks to lead the Cardinal and Gray and ended the game with 12 tackles (7 solo) and a pass breakup.

Jaeb played a major role in field position in the win, averaging 37.1 yards per punt. He punted seven times in the victory, including a 52-yard kick downed at the Presidents' 2-yard line late in the third quarter. Jaeb dropped five of his seven punts inside W&J's 20-yard line. He was also perfect on his point-after tries, converting all three. Jaeb's 37.1 yards per punt average ranks second in the PAC this season. He owns six punts of 50-plus yards and has placed 14 punts inside the opposition's 20-yard line.

Carnegie Mellon will conclude its regular season on Saturday, November 13. The Tartans will entertain Case Western Reserve University in the 35th Annual Academic Bowl at Gesling Stadium. Kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
