Moore Scores Career-High 22 Points Against Otterbein

(WOOSTER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team competed in the consolation game of the Al Van Wie / Rotary Classic hosted by the College of Wooster Saturday, November 17.  Senior Andre Moore (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored a career-high 22 points in the Tartans 75-58 loss to Otterbein University.  Carnegie Mellon is 0-2 on the season while the Cardinals even their mark at 1-1.  

Carnegie Mellon started the game on a 9-0 run and pushed its lead to 13-4 at the 14 minute mark of the first half.  Otterbein answered the Tartans fast start with a 17-3 over the next nine minutes taking a 23-16 advantage. The Cardinals continued to hold the lead at the break, 29-25.

Otterbein carried the momentum into the second half, opening with a 14-4 run pushing the score to 43-29 with 15:45 showing on the game clock. The Tartans did not go down without a fight, as a Moore three-pointer with 7:36 remaining in the contest brought the Tartans within single digits at 58-49.  With 2:09 remaining in the game, Moore connected on a jumper pulling the Tartans to within nine (67-58) once again, but that is as close as Carnegie Mellon came.

Otterbein shot 57% from the field as a team to Carnegie Mellon's 38%. Junior Sean Brophy (Blue Bell, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) finished the game with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. For the second straight night, Moore tied his career-high with four steals while tying a career-high against the Cardinals with three assists.

Zach Bakenhaster led the way for Otterbein with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Colin Echelberry scored 12 points. Jon Juergens contributed 11 points and Tommy Waterwash finished with 10.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to Allegheny College on Tuesday, November 20 for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
