Carnegie Mellon’s Cordts and Serbin Named to the All-UAA Men’s Basketball Squad

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team had two players named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Team by the league's coaches when the Association announced its postseason accolades Wednesday, March 4.  Senior Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) along with last year's UAA Rookie of the Year, sophomore Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio), found a spot on the Association's second team.

Cordts was second on the team in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game, which ranked fourth in the UAA.  The senior finished the regular season tied for fifth in the league in free throw percentage making 80.0% of his attempts from the charity stripe.  Cordts ended the year converting 23 straight from the line and 50 of his final 53 collegiate attempts. He scored in double figures in 21 games this season including pouring in a career-best 34 on two occasions; the first coming at Pitt-Johnstown to open the season and the second in a setback to nationally ranked New York University.

Serbin led the UAA with 73 blocked shots, 14 double-doubles and 7.9 defensive rebounds per contest.  Nationally, he ended the regular season ranked fifth, ninth and 11th in each respective category. Serbin became the school's single-season leader in blocks after ending the year with 73 including a career-best seven against Penn State Beaver. For the year, he averaged a double-double with 17.8 points and 10.0 rebounds, becoming the first Tartan to do so since Jon Blanciak averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the 1994-95 season. His 10.0 rebounds per game ranks second in the UAA while his 17.8 points ranks third.  In 24 of the 25 games he played, the 6-foot-9-inch sophomore recorded double figures while recording 20 or more in eight, including a career-high 31 points at New York University.  The sophomore also grabbed a career-best 20 rebounds against Heidelberg University earlier in the season.

This marks the fifth straight season that Carnegie Mellon has had at least two players named to the All-UAA team.
