Carnegie Mellon’s Men’s Basketball Hires Jeff VanGorder as Full-Time Assistant

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Jeff VanGorder has been announced by head coach Tony Wingen, in his 26th year at the helm of the Carnegie Mellon University's men's basketball program, as the full-time assistant coach for the upcoming 2015-2016 season.  VanGorder will also serve as the Tartans' recruiting coordinator.

"I have been fortunate to work with tremendous assistants throughout my time at Carnegie Mellon," Wingen said. "Jeff continues that trend and is an outstanding addition to our staff."

VanGorder comes to Carnegie Mellon from Hamilton College, where he served as the top men's assistant coach for four seasons.  During his time at Hamilton, the Continentals compiled a 55-43 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championship twice.

"I have great respect for what Jeff and head coach Adam Stockwell have accomplished at Hamilton," said Wingen.  "Jeff has a really solid background as a teacher and as a recruiter. He is completely tuned in to the elite camp scene. His experience coaching and recruiting high level student-athletes will have an immediate impact on our program."

Prior to coaching the Continentals, he served as head coach of the Cortland Basketball Club AAU team from 2007 to 2011. VanGorder has been an instructor at multiple Ivy and Patriot League elite camps as well as the prestigious Hoop Group, Hoop Mountain and The60Camp, run by former Wake Forest University coach Dave Odom and his son Lane.

VanGorder is a 2010 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management.
