Men’s Basketball Earns Team Academic Honors by NABC; Five Individuals Honored

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – For the third consecutive year, the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the second annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2014-15. Besides the team being honored, five members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2014-15 season.

In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, an institution must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2014-15 season. The Tartans earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.29.   

A record number 1,000 student-athletes from 350 colleges and universities earned NABC Honors Court distinction.  

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be academically a junior or senior, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year, must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Institution.

The five Tartans honored were seniors Jasen Blakney (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe), Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) and Matt Loebbaka (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and juniors Blake Chasen (Chevy Chase, Md./Phillips Exeter (N.H.)) and Kemal Dincer (Istanbul, Turkey/Texas Christian University).
