Sebak Breaks Single-Game Assist Record in Win Over Allegheny

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Senior Jason Sebak (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Prep) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team broke the school single-game record with 12 assists in the Tartans' 73-61 win over Allegheny College Tuesday, November 24 on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium.  The win keeps the Tartans perfect on the young season at 3-0 while the Gators fall to 0-5.

Junior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) opened the game with a three-pointer, but the Tartans surrendered the lead three minutes later.  Allegheny maintained its lead and took an 18-11 edge, the largest of the game for the Gators, with 12:13 to play in the half before the Tartans fought back.  

Over the last four minutes of the first frame, Carnegie Mellon used a 9-2 run to take a 34-30 lead into the break.  Sebak's long-range jumper with 3:44 to play in the half gave the home team its first lead since early in the contest.  The lead was one they never relinquished.

Carnegie Mellon started the second twenty minutes of play on a 14-3 run and never looked back.  During the stretch, Serbin accounted for 10 of the points including two long-range buckets.  The Tartans controlled the momentum the rest of the half and led by as many as 17 on three different occasions.

The Tartans continued to own the glass, as they out rebounded the Gators 43-30.  Junior Chris Shkil (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) led the Tartans on the boards with a career-best 11 rebounds.  Senior Blake Chasen (Chevy Chase, Md./Phillips Exeter (N.H.)) hauled in nine boards to go with his career-high four blocked shots.

Serbin led a trio of Tartans in double figures with 16 points.  Sophomore Thomas Cook (Gwynn Oak, Md./Carver Arts & Tech.) poured in a career-best 11 points while freshman Patrick Ehland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) turned in 10.  Sebak finished one point shy of his first career double-double, as he chipped in with nine points to go with his school record 12 assists.

Evan Zabriski led the Gators with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Chris Milon had 14 points.

The Tartans will host the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational on Saturday, November 28, with a game against Elmira College at 3:00 p.m. while Chatham College will play Trine University at 1:00 p.m. in the first day of play.
