Tartans Shoot Lights Out in 90-51 Win Against Penn State York

(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team rebounded from two tough losses to defeat Penn State York, 90-51, on Saturday in the consolation game of the Doc Greene Tournament hosted by Juniata College. The Tartans used a 59.3% shooting performance to move to 5-3 on the season.

Freshman Patrick Ehland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) led the Tartans with a career-high 16 points after a 7-for-7 showing from the field. Four of his baskets came in the first half as the bench scored 20 of the team's 42 first-period points.

With Penn State York leading 8-7 after seven minutes of action, junior Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) connected on a jump shot that sparked an 18-1 run that spanned four minutes. Three different Tartans scored from behind the arc during the run.

That 16-point lead turned into a 21-point halftime advantage for the Tartans with Ehland's 10 points and junior Chris Shkil's (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) nine points leading the way.

The Tartans stretched their lead to 34 points less than four minutes out of the break, shooting 6-of-6 from the field, while Penn State York didn't make its first shot of the half until the 15:52 mark.

The lead for the Tartans didn't get below 26 points, as they went on to win by 39.

The 59.3% shooting performance was the Tartans best of the season. Following Ehland's team-high 16 points was sophomore Ryan Maha (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) with 13 and Shkil and senior Blake Chasen (Chevy Chase, Md./Phillips Exeter (N.H.)) with 11 apiece.

Maha was named to the all-tournament team.

The Tartans will now break for finals and the holiday and resume action on Wednesday, December 30 at home against Franklin and Marshall at 3:00 p.m.
