Men’s Basketball Earns Fourth Straight Team Academic Honor by NABC; Six Individuals Honored

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – For the fourth consecutive year, the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) when the committee on academics announced the annual Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2015-16. Besides the team being honored, six members were selected to the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2015-16 season.

In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, an institution must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2015-16 season. The Tartans earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.41.   

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be academically a junior or senior, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year, must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Institution.

The six Tartans honored were seniors Blake Chasen (Chevy Chase, Md./Phillips Exeter (N.H.)), Kemal Dincer (Istanbul, Turkey/Texas Christian University) and Jason Sebak (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Prep) and juniors James Ormond (Piedmont, Calif.), Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) and Chris Shkil (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin).
