Shkil and Serbin Record Double-Doubles in 78-64 Victory Over Brandeis

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team hosted the Judges of Brandeis University on Friday, February 10 and walked away with a 78-64 University Athletic Association (UAA) victory. The win puts the Tartans UAA record at 6-4 and 12-9 overall while the Judges are now 8-12, 3-7.

Seniors Chris Shkil (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and Jack Serbin (New Albany, Ohio) led the Tartans, as they both recorded double-doubles. Shkil finished with a season-high 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and grabbed 12 rebounds. He also had three block shots. Serbin tallied 16 points and hauled down a game-high 16 rebounds to record his UAA leading 13th double-double. Sophomore Seth Henry (Fulton, Md./Reservoir) tied a career-best with 14 points for the Tartans

Carnegie Mellon shot 45.0% from the floor and connected on 18-of-22 from the foul line. The Judges finished shooting 36.5% and were 15-of-21 from the charity stripe. Carnegie Mellon outrebounded its 15th opponent, as the Tartans grabbed 42 boards to the Judges' 31.

Brandeis started the game connecting on three straight from behind the arc and jumped out to a 9-3 lead two minutes in.to play. Carnegie Mellon answered with nine straight points over the next three minutes to make the score 12-9. The run started with a triple by junior Ryan Maha (West Mifflin, Pa.). With the score tied at 27-27 at the 5:45 mark, Carnegie Mellon closed the half on a 10-2 run and led 37-29 at the break.

Shkil started the second half connecting on three foul shots to push the home teams lead to double digits at 40-29. Carnegie Mellon maintained its double figure lead until the midway point of the second frame when Brandeis used a 10-1 run to make the score 55-46.

Carnegie Mellon responded with 13 unanswered points over the next three minutes and led 68-46. During the run, Serbin accounted for seven of the points. The Tartans lead never dropped below double figures the rest of the night and led by as many as 24 points with 4:07 to play following a pair of foul shots by Henry.

The Tartans will conclude their home slate on Sunday, February 12 when they entertain the Violets of New York University. Tip is set for 12:00 p.m.
