Tartans Even Record with an 83-70 Win at Marymount

(ARLINGTON, Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to Arlington, Virginia on Saturday afternoon and left with an 83-70 victory over Marymount University. The Tartans are now 2-2 on the young season while the Saint move to 3-2.

For the second consecutive game, Carnegie Mellon shot over 50% from the floor. The Tartans shot 56.4% on Saturday, converting 31-of-55. The long ball was in the visitor's favor as well after making 10-of-18 for 55.6%. The Saints shot 43.3% (26-30) from the floor and were only able to convert 2-of-12 from behind the arc.

Junior Ethan Miller (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) poured in a season-best 18 points to lead the Tartans, as he made 8-of-11 from the floor and both of his three-point attempts. Freshman Nick Nakasian (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and went 8-of-8 from the charity stripe to record a season-high 17 points off the bench. Senior Trent Suddeth (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) recorded his fourth career double-double and first this season with 13 points and a game-best 10 rebounds.

Senior Zach Howarth (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) finishe dteh game with 10 points and now needs 46 points to become the 20th Tartans to score 1,000 for their career. Senior Colin McNeil (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) continued his stellar play controlling the ball as he handed out eight assists and now has 38 in four games played this season.

Carnegie Mellon trailed 17-14 before using a 12-1 run over a four-minute stretch in the first half to take a 26-18 lead with 9:07 on the clock. During the run, five different Tartans put the ball in the net. Marymount chipped away at the visitor's lead over the next 5:39 and knotted the score at 33-33 with 3:28 to play in the half. The Tartans then closed the first twenty minutes of play score the final seven points and led 40-33 at the break.

Like the first half, the Tartans used a 10-2 run over a four-minute stretch midway through the second stanza and grabbed their largest lead of the game at 66-48. Over the next nine minutes, Carnegie Mellon maintained control of the contest and went on for the 83-70 victory.

The Tartans will entertain the Seagulls of Salisbury University on Saturday, November 30 on the first day of the DoubleTree Green Tree Invitational.
