McNeil Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Colin McNeil (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, as announced by the association. McNeil is one of five players on the District 4 team. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 that is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. McNeil will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.

McNeil leads the University Athletic Association (UAA) and is second in the nation averaging 7.3 assists per game. In the Tartans' 84-71 win at NYU, McNeil tied the UAA single-game record with 17 assists, a record previously set in the 1996-97 season. His 17 assists also marked a single-game school record, one he set to open the season with 13 against Allegheny. The senior guard topped the program's single-season record for assists in a season, a record that stood for 43 years at 138. McNeil has 149 assists heading into the final three regular season contests and is seven shy of the career mark of 442 set by Todd Jenkins (1989-93).

McNeil recorded the first triple-double in school history (men or women) in a 76-73 win over La Roche University December 4, when he tabbed 10 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. He currently is one of 18 players in Division III to record a triple-double this season. He is averaging 9.5 points per game and ranks second in the UAA this season with 1.6 steals per contest. McNeil recorded a career-best five steals at NYU and has 118 career steals, ranking fifth all-time in Tartan history.

In the classroom, McNeil carries a 3.67 GPA as a double major in behavioral economics, policy and organizations and decision science. He is the co-founder of "Shine Like George Foundation" which is a charitable fundraiser for suicide prevention and merit scholarships. McNeil is Vice President of Finance for Scottie Ventures, an executive member and Pro Bono Consultant for Carnegie Mellon University Undergraduate Consulting Club and a member of the Carnegie Mellon Tepper Finance Group.

Last summer, he was an operations intern in the Retail Lending Division for PNC in Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, McNeil will be working in New York City as a Merger and Acquisition Associate under Ernst and Young's Transaction Advisory Services.
