Miller Named CoSIDA Academic All-District for Men’s Basketball

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Ethan Miller (King of Prussia, Pa. / Upper Merion) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, as announced by the association. Miller is one of five players on the District 4 team. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 that is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Miller will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.

Miller finished his career with a scoring average of 7.4 points per game through three seasons due to his senior year being cut short because of COVID-19. The small forward played in 59 career games, starting 24 of 25 games during his junior campaign. As a junior, Miller averaged 10.5 points per game and shot 52.1% from the floor with a 33.8% showing from long range. He also had 4.6 rebounds per game and led the team with 1.7 blocks per game, finishing his career 16th on the Tartan charts with 70 career blocks.

Miller recorded career highs of 19 points at Bethany and 10 rebounds against Frostburg State University during his sophomore season. He had 22 games in which he scored in double figures including a streak of five games early in his junior campaign.

In the classroom, Miller carries a 3.65 grade point average as a biological sciences major with a minor in biomedical engineering. He is a three-time University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic honoree and was named to the 2019-2020 NABC Honors Court. Miller received the BSA National Certificate of Merit and is a Triangle Club Dannehower Award and Scholarship winner. A member of Alpha Epsilon Delta National Health Professional Honor Society, Miller serves on the executive board as the fundraising chair.

Since January 2019, Miller has been a research assistant at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center where he will continue work while taking a gap year and applying to medical school. He will also volunteer in both clinical and non-clinical settings. Prior to his work at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Miller was a research assistant at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Additionally, Miller devoted more than 150 hours to volunteer work as a UPMC COVID-19 Screener.
