Tartans Host First Game, Blow Past Oberlin 84-64

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team had four players score in double figures in its first home game of the season, as they topped Oberlin College 86-64 on Tuesday, November 23 in Wiegand Gymnasium. The Tartans are now 3-2 for the year while the Yeomen drop to 2-2.

The Tartans were led by sophomore Jack Stone's (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) career-high 16 points off the bench. Stone hit three of the Tartans' nine three pointers and made all three of his free throw attempts. Junior Sean Oberman (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) tallied 15 points with senior Charlie Tripp (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) scoring 14 and sophomore R.J. Holmes (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) registering 13 points in 11 minutes of action. Holmes also led all players with seven rebounds. Tripp's point total is a career-high.

Carnegie Mellon jumped out to a 10-0 lead with Holmes scoring seven. Wolf Moser, who had a game-high 27 points, hit a three-pointer with 8:58 to play in the first half to bring the Yeomen deficit to three points, 19-16. Stone answered with a three-pointer and started a 9-0 run to put the Tartans back up 28-16 with 6:09 to go.

Oberman grabbed a defensive rebound with 11 seconds to play in the half and kept it for a driving layup to close the period with a 17-point lead for the home team, 43-26. The Tartans shot 51.7% from the floor and only turned the ball over five times while they forced Oberlin into nine turnovers and a 7-for-25 showing from the floor.

The Tartans were equally efficient in the second half making 51.9% of their shots including five three pointers with two apiece coming from Stone and Tripp.

Oberman finished with a season-high five assists while freshman Nolan Casey (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Packer Collegiate School) grabbed a season-best six rebounds.

The Tartans will next play Washington and Jefferson College on the road on Saturday, November 27 at 3:00 p.m.
