(GRANVILLE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to Granville, Ohio on Saturday to play the Big Red od Denison University and left with a 98-90 double overtime victory.

How it Happened

  • Denison led 50-35 after the first twenty minutes of play,
  • The Big Red continued to have control of the contest until midway through the second half when the Tartans used a 15-2 run over a five-minute stretch to pull within a point at 72-71 with 4:09 left in regulation. During the run, five different Tartans scored.
  • With 1:47 on the clock, junior Jack Stone connected on a jump that gave the Tartans their first lead since three minutes into play at 75-74.
  • With two ticks on the clock and the Tartans leading 78-76, Denison's Ricky Radtke grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it back in the hoop to send the game into overtime.
  • The first overtime saw the Big Red jump out to an 86-79 advantage two minutes into play, but the Tartans scored the final seven points of the first overtime. The last two points coming from junior R.J. Holmes who scored with 10 ticks left on a second chance bucket to send the game into a second extra frame.
  • The second overtime saw the Tartans jump out to a four-point lead and never looked back.

  • Senior Kevin Sax led the Tartans with a career-high 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor. The senior also hauled down a career-best 14 rebounds.
