Three Tartans Named to the All-UAA Men’s Basketball Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Juniors R.J. Holmes and Jack Stone along with senior Nick Nakasian of the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team were named to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Team when the league announced its postseason accolades on Thursday. Holmes and Stone landed a spot on the second team while Nakasian was named honorable mention. This marks Holmes' second straight All-UAA honor, as he appeared on the second team last season while it is the first for Stone and Nakasian.

Holmes started all 26 games this season for the Tartans, as he was second on the team averaging 13.3 points and led the Cardinal and Gray with 7.2 rebounds per contest. His 7.2 rebounds per contest ranked fourth best in the UAA while he led the league with 31 total offensive rebounds during UAA contests. The junior recorded five double-doubles this season which ranked third in the UAA. Holmes registered five games scoring 20 points or more, hitting the double-digit mark in scoring in 17 contests. He also tabbed seven double-digit rebound games and tied a career-high with 13 against WashU.

Stone led the Tartans in scoring and ranked eighth in the UAA averaging 14.6 points per contest while appearing in all 26 games with 15 starts. He averaged 15.9 points per game in UAA play, which ranked sixth. The junior shot 40.2% from behind the arc converting 51-of-127 which led the Tartans and ranked 10th in the UAA. Stone recorded six games scoring 20 points or more, hitting the double-digit mark in scoring in 19 contests.

Nakasian played in 19 games with 16 starts. He was fourth on the team averaging 9.3 points per game while shooting 85.0% from the foul line. The senior ranked second on the team tabbing 6.5 rebounds per game which ranked seventh in the UAA. Nakasian recorded a career-best 14 rebounds in the Tartans' win over nationally ranked Emory, including a career-high seven offensive boards. He finished the season with two double-doubles giving him four for his career.
