Golf Tied For 2nd After First Round of Hal Hansen Invitational

(CLARION, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the first day of the Hal Hansen Invitational Sunday afternoon hosted at the par 72 Clarion Oaks Golf Club by Clarion University.  The Tartans are tied for second-place following the first 18 holes of the invitational.  As a team, the Cardinal and Gray are tied with California (Pa.) after carding a 300.

Indiana (Pa.) had the low team round of the day with a 290. Mercyhurst and the host Golden Eagles are a stroke back from Carnegie Mellon and California (Pa.) with a 301 followed by West Chester and Point Park (302), Gannon and Millersville (303), Clarion B (304), Shepherd (314) and Pitt Johnstown (326).  

The Tartans were led by freshman George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) who carded a one-over par 73.  Senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) fired a 75 while junior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward), sophomore Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and freshman Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.) all carded rounds of four-over par 76.

Carnegie Mellon had one individual enter the invitational, as freshman Alex Woodward (Aurora, Ontario) had a round of 83.
