Golf Places Second at Hal Hansen Invitational

(CLARION, PA.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the final day of the Hal Hansen Invitational Monday, September 9 and fired a team score of 298 finishing with 36-hole score of 598.  Clarion University was the host on the par 72 Clarion Oaks Golf Club.  The Tartans 598 placed them second and was the fourth-best two-round team total in school history.

Indiana (Pa.) won the invitational with a 583 followed by the Tartans.  West Chester finished four strokes behind the Cardinal ad Gray with a 602.  California (Pa.) placed fourth after carding a 603 and Point Park University rounded out the top five teams with a 605.  
    
After carding a three-over par 75 Sunday afternoon, senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) shot one-under par 71 on Monday to finish with a 36-hole total of 146, placing second as an individual. In his first collegiate tournament, freshman George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) shot a five-over par 149 (73-76) for the two rounds.

Sophomore Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) ended the invitational with a 151 (76-75) while junior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) finished a stroke back of DuCarme with a 152 after firing back-to-back rounds of 76.  Freshman Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.) went into the clubhouse a stroke behind Low with a 153 (76-77)

Carnegie Mellon had one individual enter the invitational, as freshman Alex Woodward (Aurora, Ontario) had rounds of 83 and 78 to finish with a 161.

The Tartans will hit the links September 15-16, as they compete at the annual Guy Kuhn Invitational at the Meadville Country Club in Meadville, Pa.  The two-day event is hosted by Allegheny College.
