Low Leads Tartans After First Day of UAA Championships

(SORRENTO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is in third place at the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships following the first 18 holes of play.  On Sunday, March 9 the Tartans fired a team score of 302.  The two-day, 36-hole event is being played at the Red Tail Golf Course in Sorrento, Fla. on the 6,768-yard, par-72 course hosted by Carnegie Mellon.

Emory University currently leads the championship after carding a 294 followed by University of Rochester's 300. New York University fired a 308 and is in fourth. Alex Wunderlich of Emory sits atop the leader board after carding a round of one-under par 71.

Junior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) fired a season-low one-over par 73 to lead the Tartans on Sunday afternoon. His 73 was one stroke off his career-best round from a year ago. Senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) finished with a three-over 75.

Freshman George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) carded a 76 following the first 18 holes while fellow freshman Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.) ended Sunday with a 78. Sophomore Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) rounded out the team scores for Carnegie Mellon with an 84.

Carnegie Mellon also had three individuals play with freshman Alex Woodward (Aurora, Ontario) heading the trio with a career-best round of 75. Junior Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) shot an 81 followed by junior Derek Cobb (Urbana, Ohio) with a 90.

Round two is set to begin with the first group teeing off at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10.
