Qian Top Tartan After First Round of The Hershey Cup

(HERSHEY, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is tied for seventh-place at the 15-team Hershey Cup after play on Sunday, April 6.  The Tartans fired a team score of 313 on the par-71, East Course at Hershey Country Club Sunday afternoon. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by the University of Rochester.

Carnegie Mellon freshman George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) currently sits three strokes off the lead after carding a 76.  Currently there is a three-way tie for the top spot between Alex Kane of McDaniel, Nicholas Palladino of Rochester and Oliver White of Allegheny who all fired rounds of two-over par 73.

Senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) is two strokes behind Qian, as he entered the clubhouse with a round of 78 followed by sophomore Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan)  and freshman Alex Woodward (Aurora, Ontario).  DuCarme fired a 79 while Woodward shot 80. Junior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) rounded out the Tartans with an 82.

Round two begins at 8:00 a.m. Monday, April 7.
