CoSIDA Recognizes Bangor for Third Time

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - For the third straight season Carnegie Mellon University senior Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy), a member of men's golf, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team.  CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania.

Bangor is a business administration major with a 3.85 GPA who was selected as one of two Carnegie Mellon students to represent the Tepper School of Business at the Undergraduate Business Student Leadership Conference (UBSLC) at Goizueta Business School at Emory University in 2013. He is a member of the Carnegie Mellon Student-Athlete Advisory Council where he initiated a partnership between SAAC, the men's golf team and The First Tee of Pittsburgh to host a seasonal clinic to provide golf and life skills instruction to 25 students from The Neighborhood Academy. Bangor is also a teaching assistant for a global business class on campus.

Most recently, Bangor was recognized for the fourth straight year on the PING Mid-Atlantic Region team and for the second time as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. The senior ended the regular season with an average score of 75.2 through 18 rounds with one tournament win, three top-three finishes and seven top-ten finishes. He had a season-low round of 70 at the Carnegie Mellon Fall Invitational and was a second-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree after placing ninth at the Association Championships. For the fourth straight season, Bangor led the Tartans in scoring average.

As a junior, Bangor competed at the 2013 NCAA Championships and was named to the PING All-America third team.

For his career, Bangor is a two-time All-UAA member and ranks first on the school's all-time charts with 10 tournament wins and 18 top-three finishes.  He holds a career average of 75.2 in 75 rounds and set the Tartan record for the best two-round score his freshman campaign of 141 (3-under par) at the Guy Kuhn Invitational at Meadville Country Club and recorded the top three-round score last season of three-under par 211 (69-69-73) at the Vulcan Invitational.  He also is the school's single-season leader with seven top-three finishes his sophomore season.

Bangor will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
