Tartans Two Strokes Back After First Round of UAA Championships

(SORRENTO, Fla.) - After a closely contested first round of golf at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Golf Championship at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team is sitting third but just two strokes behind the University of Rochester who carded a 311 for the day.

Leading the Tartans on day one at the par 72 course was sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy), who also led the field, with a 74. Three strokes behind Qian was senior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) who is tied for sixth place.

Freshman Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy), sophomore Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) and senior Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn./Avon) all entered the club house with a nine-over 81, brining the Tartans' total to 313 for the day.

Playing as individuals, sophomore Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) finished the 18-hole course with a 78 while freshman Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) carded a 79. Pomerantz is in ninth place after his career-best round while Mohan is tied for 10th. Sophomore Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) also played as an individual and finished the first round with an 85.

The second and final round will be played on Monday, March 9 at Red Tail beginning at 9 a.m.
