Men’s Golf Wins Edward Jones Shootout; Sets School Team Record

(APOLLO, Pa.) – At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 12, the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team shot a season-low round of 288 to place first at the annual Shootout finishing the tournament with a team score of 583 (295-288) which set a new school record for a two-round team score.  The previous record was 593.  The two-round event was held at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania.  The Tartans claimed four of the top five individual spots.
    
The Tartans entered two teams into the Shootout with the 'B' squad appearing as individuals on the official results. The Tartans 'B' Team finished the 36-hole tournament in second with a 591 (294-297) on the par-70 course.

Tartan freshman Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy), who is playing on Carnegie Mellon's 'B' Team, was the individual medalist with a two-round score of one-under par 139 (67-72).  His score set a school record for the lowest individual two-round score which was 141 going into play this weekend.

Behind the Tartans in the standings was Saint Vincent with a 603 followed by Point Park and Penn State Behrend with a 604.
    
Sophomore Jordan Klodowski (Kittanning, Pa.) placed second individually following his career-best round of one-under par 69 on Sunday to finish with an even-par 140.  Classmate George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) ended the event with a 144 (71-73) to place fourth while senior Cameron Low (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) was two strokes behind Qian with a 146 after firing back-to-back rounds of 73 and placed fifth overall. Senior Justin Fischler (Avon, Conn.) and sophomore Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) both had a 36-hole total of 156 as each improved from their opening round score on Sunday.  Jennette shot 10 strokes better and entered the clubhouse with a 73 while Fischler improved four strokes carding a 76 Sunday afternoon.

The Tartans 'B' Team, led by Del Bosque, saw sophomore Alex Woodward (Aurora, Ontario) card a 149 (75-74) and freshman Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) fire back-to-back rounds of 75 to end with a 150. Sophomore Alexander Pomerantz (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) shot a 153 (77-76) and fellow sophomore Ryan Karbowicz (Avon, Conn.) had a 159 (81-78).

Two other individuals competed for the Tartans, as junior Ben DuCarme (McMurray, Pa./Canon-McMillan) shot a 154 (75-79) and freshman John Shlonsky (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) ended the event with a 162 (81-81).


The Tartans will continue their season Tuesday, April 24 when they host the annual Carnegie Mellon Invitational.  Play will begin at 12:00 p.m. at Longue Vue Country Club.
