Qian Named UAA Men's Golf Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University Sophomore George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week following two top-five finishes including individual medalist honors during last week. The honor is Qian's second of the season.

After four rounds of golf, Qian recorded a scoring average of 71.3 and lowered his team-leading average to 74.3 for the year. He took individual medalist honors at the Hershey Cup and finished fourth at the Tartans' home tournament, The Edward Jones Shootout.

At the Hershey Cup, Qian tied the school record for lowest round with a four-under par 67 and tied the school record for lowest two-round score with a 141, before freshman Adrian Del Bosque broke the mark with a 139 at the Edward Jones Shootout. Qian had another solid performance at the Edward Jones Shootout, placing fourth with a two-round score of 144, leading the Tartans to victory and a team school-record score of 583.

Qian and the team are back in action this afternoon at the Tartans' spring invitational played at Long Vue Country Club.
